American commercial’s on Turkey

May 25, 2011

After all these commercials and advertisements Turkey did, I guess it made Americans wonder about Turkey in these days. what does Turkey looks like from a Americans point of view or what does Turkish people looks like, or for mans what does woman looks like in there. Well I started to realize there is been more American commercials or adds are inspired from Turkey or lets say Turkish people. From one media to another they all effect each other in some way.

Here  is the commercials made by American media.

CARL’S JR. MISS TURKEY

In this add they are kind of joking around turkey the; ‘animal” and Turkey the “country”. Well this add starts with Miss Turkey walking with her bikini and eating a burger. Commercial says “we hired Miss Turkey to taste and prove our turkey burger”. So they are both Turkey, she is actually “Turkish” not Turkey, but  in my point of view;  this is what commercial is trying to say that she is beautiful, hot and have been chosen to be; the best woman in Turkey 2011 as Miss Turkey and she must understand the best turkey to eat, because she is Turkish. So its trying to prove Carls JR. has hot, sexy burger just like Miss Turkey and Miss Turkey understands from the best turkey to eat if she chooses the best then its the best burger,

CITI BANK COMERCIAL

Its starts with a guy talks about his dad transferring to Istanbul for work. He talks about his dad and mom figuring out the city, getting used to it, making friends. But he says; they were missing something N.Y. So it gave him an idea for their 30th anniversary since he couldn’t t be there he asked citi bank how many thank you  points it will take them to give them something special. and he send his parents seats from the old states. at the end it says citi thank you points could use for anything you want.

Turkish advertisements

May 25, 2011

Advertisements are great way to pull peoples attention to make them buy, travel, see or make people to get an idea what you are presenting. well Turkey is going all out with the advertisements. According to the news Such a growth will possibly make Turkey the fastest-growing advertising market in Europe. Spending on advertising rebounded in the first half and reached 1.83 billion Turkish lira, a 36.3 percent rise from the same period a year earlier. Turkey’s advertising market, which contracted 15 percent in 2010, is expected to grow over 30 percent in 2011.Spending on TV advertising grew 45.9 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2010 to 1.02 billion TL. Spending on online advertising, which increased to 121 million TL from 74 million, saw the highest growth when compared to other medias.

—Well they always made commercials, advertisements on the buildings or billboards  etc. but after straight flights started from Istanbul to L.a  it just start pulling people’s attention. Lots, of lots of tourists comes to Turkey in summers. Mostly from European countries. there is bunch of place to travel but it just gets better in summers. Turkey has four seas around it, every  city is just better than each. Mostly people from Netherlands, France, Germany, Russia comes to visit Turkey. Probably Turkish media was trying to pull Americans attention for once. straight flights from Istanbul to L.A. came out because there was a lots of travelers, and its better for some other countries also because  instead for other countires to take 3 or more flights they could take turkish airlines. Smartes thing Turkish media did was to put Kobe in to the comercial. When basketball fans saw Kobe ,who is peoples role model they might say “wow if Kobe is traveling, it must be good” so this adverstiment been on billboards in downtown, sunset blvd, santa monica blvd. etc. On tv and it also been in news beacuse Armenian celebrities  said they were upset with Kobe for advertising for Turkey, but Kobe left no comment on it. Turkish airlines also caries all the Manchester United soccer player, they have contract and turkish airlines caries them to all of their games. and they also have commercial with all the players.

—When i was looking at L.A times news paper, i saw 4 pages advertisment from Turkey. title was Turkey welcomes you,  there was pictures of seas, historical places. Even I’m Turkish and I visit every year, it made me want to go those  places again. Using media is a great way to pull people’s attention. its a diffent kind of media, Turkey uses news paper to advertise to pull people from diffrent  presepectives. there is other adds i saw also on sunset blvd., comercials advertising that advertises Turkey.

Now i want to share a video that collects all of them at once the turkish airlines commercial and there is the traveling to Turkey commercial

Dreamcatcher!

May 7, 2011

Today im going to talk about Dream catcher. It is a traditional Native American object. It’s a native American tradition, from Ojibwa (Chippewa) tribe. They hang this dream catcher as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. Traditionally Native American dreamcatchers are and made of bent wood and sinew string with a feather hanging from the netting.

How does dream catcher catches the dreams?

Native Americans believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dream catcher when hung over or near your bed swinging freely in the air catches the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the outer holes and slide down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeper does not know that he/she is dreaming. The bad dreams not knowing the way get tangled in the dream catcher and perish with the first light of the new day. When the sun rises in the morning, sunrays will destroy the bad dreams trapped in the dreamcatcher web (according to Objibwe story)

What does dream catchers are made of ?

Dream catcher hoops were originally made out of willow and covered with sage; the web was made from deer sinew. Modern dream catchers are made with wood or metal wrapped in leather strips, artificial sinew replace the now forbidden use of deer sinew.

 A story people believe….

This legend states that a woman whom the tribe called Spider Woman helped bring the sun to their people. At that time, according to legend, all people lived in one general area together. Spider woman would build her lodge early each day, and could be seen as the dew settled on the spider webs around her lodge. These dewy webs caught the sun’s rays each day. Later, when people began to scatter to the four corners of the Earth, Spider Woman who also cared for the infants of the tribe could not follow everyone at once. So she took the sinew of the dew-covered plants and webs, weaving them into a circle that represented the sun. These were the first dream catcher.

Where can I put my dream catcher?

Dream catchers should be hanged over bed, so it could protect you while you sleep. The dream catcher charm should be hang from the hoop on the cradle.

Does it really catches my bad dreams?

Nobody know the actual truth, when people believe, psychologically they feel better and safer, when a person hangs dreamcatcher and believe is it, he/she can sleep in peace because dreamcatcher is there to protect. And I think when you believe it just comes true.

lets talk about wine!

March 11, 2011

From the numerous contributions the Romans made to the world, both ancient and of those passed on to modern society, perhaps the most lasting was the art of wine (vinum) making. Wild grapes, though now nearly extinct, grew in abundance throughout the Mediterranean and were cultivated in earnest throughout the region. The Etruscans and Greeks were the preeminent wine consumers in Italy prior to the rise of Rome, and though wine was an important part of the Roman diet, it didn’t become the cultural icon of their society from the very start. Wine has a rich history dating back to around 8000 BC. The areas that wine had found were Georgia, Iran and Armenia. Lot of empires believed that wine is special. Even in Christianity wine used beverage as a common part of everyday life. According to the article Body of Christ, the Bread, the Wine,” Wine is traditionally to bedrunk by the presiding minister. Christians use wine in Holy Communion, namely, the body and blood of the executed Jesus. However wine has a huge impact on today’s world economy and human’s health.

Wine is playing a major role in the world wide trading and economy. The process of producing the wine plays a huge role in developing lots of jobs and markets for itself in every producing country. Planting and harvesting the grapes to the process of making the wine, then bottling and storing , to selling it either locally or exporting it require a huge amount of labor force and investments and creates markets that are huge as well for itself  will enhance the economy of the producing country.  That’s why nowadays so many counties such as France and Italy consider wine production and trading to be a corner stone in their economy.  The largest producers of wine in the world are Italy, France, USA, and SPAIN. For example; Italy is the first or the second largest producer of wine in the world. According to the Italian Agriculture Census, there were 2.6 million farms in 2000 (down from 3 million in 1990,) covering 19.6 million hectares. The vast majority (94.7%) are family-operated and small, averaging only 5 hectares in size. Of the total surface area in agricultural use (forestry excluded,) vineyards 5.4%.“As the country recovers from the recessionary environment, the wine industry continues to look positive,” Eric Schmidt, manager of information services for the Beverage Information Group. Another telling number came from The Wine Institute. Though California vintners shipped more wine to other parts of the country in 2009 than the year before, total sales revenue slipped to $17.9billion, about 3 percent less than 2008. We can say that at present America becomes one of the biggest wine markets in the world.  According to The Times newspaper, “Analysts believe supermarkets could have to pass on further price increases in the coming months on some products such as bread”.

Studies have suggested a close relationship between the moderate consumption of red wine and a healthy heart. This phenomenon goes under the name French Paradox because although the French eat as much saturated fat as Americans, they seem to enjoy better overall cardiovascular health. Even though these studies show that polyphenol, which is in red wine, can help your heart, blood circulation, and many other things, doctors still argue about this, especially American doctors disagree with this outcome. On September 14, 1998, a team from Pap worth Hospital in Cambridge England successfully demonstrated that red wine contains a high proportion of substances called polyphenol, which inhibit the deposit of fat in the blood vessels. These plant pigments tend to be a very strong antioxidant. Polyphenlos can be found in grape skins but they are discarded early in the process of making white wine. The study found that red wine, but not white wine, has antioxidant activity. According to Wikipidia.org “A polyphenol antioxidant is a type of antioxidant containing a polyphenolic substructure. Numbering over 4,000 distinct species, these compounds have antioxidant activity in vitro but are unlikely to have antioxidant roles in vivo. Rather, they may affect cell-to-cell signaling, receptor sensitivity, inflammatory enzyme activity or gene regulation”.    “A thing is right when it tends to preserve in the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community.  It is wrong when ittends otherwise” (Aldo LEOPOLD 745).We can think that wine has a good effect of human body. Doctors offer to their patients to drink one or two glass of wine in a week. Drinking wine once or twice a week reduces the risk of heart disease especially in middle aged and elderly men. Even in first three months pregnancy drinking a glass of wine has no harm for the baby. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has produced draft that pregnant women can consume up to 1.5 units of alcohol a day after the first three months of pregnancy. A glass of red wine contains tiny amounts of carbohydrate and protein but no fat. Therefore, in the diets people prefer to drink wine instead of drinking any other beverages because red wine designed to help people lose weight and eat a healthy diet.

In conclusion, it’s been so long time that we have wine in our lives. Wine is alcohol beverage that is made from usually grape, apple or berry.  According to the Michael POLLAN in “Botany of Desire”, in early ages alcohol was the great beneficence of sugar. The sweetest fruit makes the strongest drink, where grapes didn’t do well, that was usually apples. But wine is not only an alcohol, it’s a life choice. In my opinion Food taste so much better with wine. Besides it helps on keeping people in shape rather than saving all the unnecessary fats in the body.

Theremin

March 7, 2011

Today I am going to talk about Theremin. Theremin originally known as the aetherphone/etherophone, Thereminphone or termenvox/thereminvox. It is an instrument played without touching the instrument. professor,  Leon Theremin who patented the device in 1928. The controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which sense the position of the player’s hands and control oscillators for frequency  with one hand, and amplitude volume with the other, so it can be played without being touched. The electric signals from the Theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker.

History of Theremin

The theremin was originally the product of Russian government-sponsored research into proximity sensors. Later In 1922,  Lev Sergeyevich Termen, better known in around the world as Leon Theremin. He invented many different devices, but it is the instrument that bears his name that has assured his memory in the collective minds of musicians, engineers..

How to play

The Theremin is almost unique among musical instruments in that it is played without physical contact. The musician stands in front of the instrument and moves his or her hands in the proximity of two metal antennas. The distance from one antenna determines frequency pitch, and the distance from the other controls amplitude volume. Most frequently, the right hand controls the pitch and the left controls the volume, although some performers reverse this arrangement. However, it is easy to learn but difficult to master, Theremin performance presents two challenges: reliable control of the instrument’s pitch with no guidance (no keys, valves, frets, or finger-board positions), and minimizing undesired portamento that is inherent in the instrument’s continuously-variable-pitch design.

Where does it used?

Theremins are popular instruments among avant-garde and new music artists because of their perceived freedom from traditional compositional structures. It is also performed as a classical instrument, and is occasionally used jazz improvisation. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used a variation of the Theremin minus the loop during performances of “whole Lotta love” and “no quarter ” throughout the performance history of Led Zeppelin is one example of Theremin use. Led Zeppelin.

And here is the video, that shows what kind of sound comes out of Theremin and how do they play it without touching it.

MetroPCS unlimit xxxxx! LIMIT yourself.

May 16, 2010

MetroPCS, when you watch the  commercial, Your first reaction will be like “wow awesome”.  What is so special about MetroPCS? You have unlimited talking and texting for some certain price , MetroPCS doesn’t stops there, you can make a international calls from your cell phone to a stable phones NOT cell phones, and you will get unlimited international texting also for a certain price.  And you also have a internet!!! It’s a lot cheeper, compare to other phones right? Than why the whole world doesn’t switch to this special Metro? Thats easy, MetroPCS has a bad coverage, it always goes on to voice mail and when you need to use the phone, too bad that you don’t have a service. It has a really slow internet, it’s a waste of time to wait for web pages to open. Unlimited texting is nice, but problem  is you can’t text very long sentences, it cuts you off , its not like iphone or blackberry. And another problem with texting is, when you text international your phone number shows up diffrent instead of (+1310633…) it shows up (9999228289…), so the person you are texting gets shocked and wonders, whose number is this? so they have to text back that weird number so you can gets the text back. Calling international it sounds amazing, but when you call international its so hard to hear the person in the other line, voice is pretty low and you hear the other persons voice late, so it makes voices mix up and you can’t understand anything. Media tricks people just like that! It sounds perfect when you get it, than the problems starts. I have learned to search for something before I buy it, and not trust media’s judgment. It is a good phone, if you don’t use a phone so much. My point is for MetroPCS to get in to a good level of phone company, it needs a time.
